59th (Staffordshire) Division


 

Caen 4-18 July 1944
Mont Pincon 30 July - 9 August 1944

 

This was a Second Line Territorial division which had been in England since the outbreak of war, training for the invasion. Units from the division began to land in Normandy from 27th June 1944. The Divisional Commander was Major General L.O. Lyne. Many of its units were disbanded and broken up at the end of the Normandy Campaign and the divisions was officially disbanded on 18th October 1944.
