Bourgebous Ridge 18 - 23 July 1944
Battle of Falaise 7 - 22 August 1944

 

This was a veteran First Line Territorial division which had fought in North Africa and Tunisia 1942-43, and Italy 1943. It then returned to England and trained for D Day, landing at Sword Beach on 6/7th June 1944. It linked up with the 6th Airborne Division, and then took part in Operation Goodwood before leading the way in the breakout in August 1944. The Divisional Commander was Major General Bullen Smith and then Major General T.G. Rennie from 26th July 1944 (until he was killed in 1945).
